As the University gets deeper into the 21st Century, though, it seeks ways to utilize technology to create a ââ¬Å"friction freeâ⬠situation for faculty, administrators and students. It should be no surprise that it was Disney who brought the concept of electronic tracking and payment to the mass market. Caleb Kraft, writing in the Electronic Engineering Times opens his article with ââ¬Å"Disney is no stranger to technology.â⬠From the beginning, when the original Disney Land was opened in the 1950s, the theme park was at the cutting edge. The animatronics that drove many of the exhibits are crude by 2016 standards. It was impressive in its time and Disney has continued t o be a leader (Kraft, 2014). With the MagicBand, Disney takes the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) process commercial. The good news is that the MagicBand is assembled from off-the-shelf technology. In that same article it is noted that the only ââ¬Å"proprietaryâ⬠component is one chip which has a ââ¬Å"standardâ⬠part number except for a ââ¬Å"DNâ⬠suffix which, presumably, means custom made for Disney. It would be easy, then, to have the equivalent device manufactured at a reasonable price. The hardware is priced reasonably, and the basic operational software is available. The problem is the ââ¬Å"middlewareâ⬠where the application is customized for the user (Violino, 2005). The question is whether or not it would make sense to invest in this technology for a college or university. The initial cost, the transmitters and receivers would be significant. In addition, there is the cost of that ââ¬Å"middleware.â⬠Not to be ignored is the requirement for a full-time, dedicated Information Technology (IT) specialist. One of the keys to making the device work is that it must be simple enough that it does not require training itself. A simple, one page ââ¬Å"quick start guideâ⬠should be all of the documentation required. Or, as Creager (2014) suggests, make everything simple enough that a seven-year-old can lead the way. Assuming the answer to the core questions ââ¬Å"does this technology make sense in a college or university setting?â⬠is ââ¬Å"yes,â⬠then it is interesting to speculate what applications this technology could have for the school? There remains significant ââ¬Å"frictionâ⬠in the system. With engagement of the stakeholders in the University we can address this. Students, faculty and administration must be on board. But just consider how well things could work. First, and most obviously, the School Equivalent of the MagicBand (SEMB) (no citation, I just made that up) would function as your student identification in all that you do. Do you need to get into Dossett or Powell or Carter or Centennial Hall? Hold the SEMB to the door and hear the ââ¬Å"clickâ⬠as it unlocks. When you want to get into your own room? Do the same thing. Is it time to do your laundry? Gather it up and head down to the laundry room. Your SEMB will unlock the washer, unlock the detergent vending machine, and unlock the drier. It will not fold your T-shirt collection. Not yet anyway. But the guys and girls in the engineering college can work on that one. The Doctor Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory) T-shirt folding machine is already available, through Amazon, for twenty dollars or less. Surely the nerds in Dr. Keith Johnsons Department of Engineering Technology, Surveying and Digital Media can automate that task. Do you need a soda? The SEMB will handle the bil ling. When you head to the Market Place, the Treehouse, the Atrium or the Cave the SEMB will, again, handle the billing. More importantly, the SEMB will be linked to the kitchen system. This will allow the finest possible tuning of inventory in the kitchen, minimizing waste. Your personal preferences can be tracked and if you are not eating things that are good for you the food police will send a notification to your laptop reminding you that your diet is important, especially at your age. Since not everything is available on the internet (yet), students still spend time in the Sherrod Library. When you walk in the library will recognize your SEMB. Sit at one of the carrels and, again, the SEMB logs you in. The carrel terminal will come on and your library history will be on the opening screen. Now you can search for that article, ââ¬Å"Analysis of Sixteen Utterly Boring Thingsâ⬠by Isaiah Lott that was published in the American Journal of Boring Stuff back in 1987. The laptop has already told you that this isnââ¬â¢t available through JStor or any of your normal sources so you are stuck looking the old fashioned way. Since the system traces everything, you are informed, from the carrel terminal that issue is not on the shelf. Fortunately, since the SEMB tracks everything, you also know that your classmate Roger has it and he is in carrel 26. You can walk down, ask if he is using it right then and borrow it. When you are done and have returned the issue to Roge r, or to the desk, you just walk out with the other books you needed. No need for a tedious check out procedure. That is already taken care of by the SEMB. The Professor has no need to worry about those mundane tasks like taking roll. As you walk into the classroom or the lab or the lecture hall just wave your wrist and you are logged in. When you turn in an assignment via the internet, the BlueTooth connection on your laptop has you logged in. If it is an assignment that you have to turn in as a hard copy the SEMB will log and bill your printer time. You will need to be careful with the friends you choose and the access you allow them. Remember, with the SEMB in place, your location is available if you are logged in to some place fitted with a receiver. You will allow some friends to have ââ¬Å"fullâ⬠access. For those in your inner circle, your location will be visible and they can simply come find you. Most, though, you will limit to your cellphone number and email address. If you are on a work study program the concept of a time clock is obsolete. Wave the SEMB and you are ââ¬Å"clocked in.â⬠When you leave the SEMB clocks you out. Be careful if you are required to use an ETSU vehicle though. The SEMB has you linked to the GPS. If you are speeding they will know. And by all means do not stop at a bar. If you have a Physical Education requirement the SEMB will log you in and out of the BCPA or the pool (it is perfectly waterproof). You can track steps or miles walked, run or swum. Do you care about ââ¬Å"calories burned? The SEMB can take care of that for you. Those long lines to register are a thing of the past with the SEMB system. Your laptop recognizes the SEMB and logs you in. You can sit at the laptop, choose your classes, get registered, and have everything confirmed before your coffee is cold. If at some point there is an issue with your schedule your SEMB will notify you to check the laptop. All of this makes student life easier. The days of the paper class schedule or the combination lock are in the past now. Your locker at the gym? The SEMB handles that. There is no need to carry a heavy load of books any more. Your laptop or iPad is linked, via the SEMB, to the university system and in turn to the online sources your professors use. The SEMB system is important to the university administration as well. At the most basic level, reports of census, broken by class, college, time of day, day of week or any other cohort that administrators deem worthwhile, or simply interesting, can be drawn. No need to review a paper record to see if Survey of Twelve Boring Things 305 is actually being attended. The SEMB has provided a report of number of students, by name if that matters, how regular they attend, what grades they are getting and the rest. For counselors, the system provides the type of information they had only dreamt of as little as two years ago. How are their students doing in class? A quick check shows that he still needs to get three core requirements taken and that one of them has to be taken next semester or he will not meet the prerequisites for the next level. With a click of the mouse and a few keystrokes he can send a message. And John, through the little ââ¬Å"buzzâ⬠on his SEMB knows, in about a second that he needs to check. The fiscal office no longer has to work through a mountain of paper or a maze of spreadsheets. The SEMB is tracking every cent charged against every studentââ¬â¢s account. If a student is getting close to his limits the notification is automatic. If he or she has overspent the fiscal department can be notified immediately and action taken. Reports are now largely automatic as well. The Department of Education requires beginning of semester, mid-semester and end of semester reports including basic counts and breakdowns by race, age, sex, religion and seventeen other categories. Nobody remembers why, but they do and since they provide a significant fraction of the Universityââ¬â¢s funding the reports must be filed. With the SEMB system in place, not only can these reports be filed, they are filed with a level of accuracy and timeliness that would have been impossible only two years ago. Is the Disney MagicBand technology suitable for the University setting? The answer is ââ¬Å"probably yes.â⬠Students who have grown up with computers, cell phones, iPads, xBox gaming consoles and the like will be comfortable with the system. For us, it is natural. Faculty will accept the technology as well. For them this is a truly labor saving system. Those mundane tasks, keeping attendance records for example, become automated and free faculty for the job of preparing for class and teaching. This is, presumably, what they want to do anyway and why they invested all of those years, first in school themselves and then establishing themselves in their discipline. The ease of scheduling meetings will provide another benefit. The primary resistance can be expected to come from the administrators. This is not a question of technical ability. Every office has computers these days and staff is fully familiar with how to handle the technology. Rather, the issue is in the nature of bureaucracies. Things have been done ââ¬Å"this wayâ⬠for years. Systems are in place and understood. Many processes, whether preparing reports or providing support, have reached the point of being almost automatic. Any change will result in disruptions and, as nature abhors a vacuum, bureaucracies, by their nature, abhor change. On balance, implementation of an SEMB-like system would seem to be a benefit to both the suppliers and consumers in higher education. The system could track parking too.

Several issues particularly pertinent to MCOs were explored in a recent consumer survey conducted by Emron, Inc. In this article, explore consumersââ¬â¢ behaviors are explored relative to medication purchases in these areas: * Sources of advice about prescription and non-prescription medications * Communications with prescribers about cost and impact on quality of life * Opinions about price equity of medications * Importance of the pharmacy benefit in health plans * Role of advertising in purchasing decisions for non-prescription medications The study first starts with talking about the advice the customer takes in order to buy any type of pharmaceutical products. The results are divided in among the physicians, nurses, pharmacists, family e. t. c. the highest rank is of course given to physicians followed by pharmacists. So we get to know that one thing that is the sources of advice for customerââ¬â¢s affects customerââ¬â¢s perceptions of buying a medicine. So it may be possible that a doctor living in each of these localities may give different type of preference if one may prescribe pediasure other may prescribe ensure. The second factor that affects is prescriberââ¬â¢s communication about cost and quality of life. From the study we see that people are mainly concerned for their life rather than the cost of medicine, we all know that pediasure is a very high quality product and in order to keep your nutrition value very high you will make sure that you use pedia sure, but never the les this is one of the important factors taken in to consideration when investing in to medicines. Whatever the cost of the product is you tend to spend on it if itââ¬â¢ll increase the quality of your life. Consumers also look for fair consumer prices. When they figure out if one of the products is not giving a fair consumer price then they will surely not buy it even in case of medicines as now even in this market youââ¬â¢re faced with immense competition. If the price of Pediasure is not fair according to some then the customers will move their target towards ensure as these two are the biggest competitors available. According to this study some of the customers were even asked to talk about the main factors which result in going to a pharmacy and buying a medicine. The highest price as usual was given to the price and prescription of the doctors which shows that these two factors are the main ones which affect the benefit and the buying plan of customers. A very high rank was also given to non-prescription medicine buying pattern, that is that many customers by medicine without any prescriptions, they use the help of either billboards or any other means of advertisement. This is somewhat the case with pediasure as well because I have prescribed many people to give pediasure to their children as regular diet and they have actually followed and abided to it. Summing it all up this study basically talks about the buying patterns of individuals while buying nutritional products or medicines. We get a clear view on what factor do the consumers keep in mind when making an effort to go and buy this product. The second research here talks about the consumerââ¬â¢s choice process when purchasing the staple food, it was chosen as for some pediasure is a medicine hence a necessity. After 1989, there were significant changes in food consumption, both in volumes and structure. These changes happened due to various factors. The most important factors with influence on demand and food consumption were: development of income levels of Czech inhabitants, development of consumer prices of food and non-food products and services, offer and availability of products on the market, advertising and promotion, health education, joining the EU. Besides these above, an impact on consumption also has such factors as quality development, extent of self-provision with food products, or the degree to which the needs are satisfied. The fundamental influence on consumption has the development of consumer prices of food and capital goods and services in relations to development of incomes, thus buying power. In the last few years, there was a visible tendency to decreasing influence of prices on food consumption. The paper focuses on the development of consumption and changes in consumption patterns, motivation and attitudes. Presented data are based on the marketing research conducted by the Department of Marketing and Trade, Mendel University in Brno, in fall 2004. However, results of the recent research have proved that, when buying foodstuffs and beverages, consumers are influenced also by habits, current moods, situations, emotions and that the behavior of individual consumer segments is quite different. This could be the case with PediaSure as well. Factors, which influence purchase decision, affect individual groups of consumers in a different way. For a consumer research concerning individual staple food categories, the following demographic characteristics were used: sex, age, affiliation with a social group and domicile. Demographic characteristics, which are easily available, measurable, and helping to localize the target market, were used. Analysis and results of the survey (via questionnaire) about customer behavior then allow predicting the behaviour of customers and to learn what, why, when, where, how and how often they buy. The survey via questionnaires aiming to analyze the consumer decision process when buying staple foods and beverages was conducted using a sample of 1 750 respondents. The sample was selected in such a way that it should represent the structure of the Czech population according to 4 identification characteristics ââ¬â age, sex, social group, and size of the settlement where the respondents have their permanent place of residence. The answers provided information about reasons and the decision-making process when buying four staple food categories, meat and meat products, milk, dairy products and eggs, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages and bakery and confectionery products. Frequencies of respondents, whose motives for purchases of basic foodstuff were influenced by routine, newcomers, healthy lifestyle or other unidentified factors . As PediaSure is also a dairy product that is the reason why we use this result which says Milk and dairy products illustrate that routine purchases predominated also when buying milk, butter and eggs. Purchases of cheese and yogurts were influenced by the assortment and by the healthy lifestyle. Frequencies of respondents classified into individual ocial groups did not show any significant differences It follows from these results that changes in consumption patterns of milk and dairy products were influenced by the factors of health protection andhealthy lifestyle. Extended offer of products was another important factor. Financial reasons were mentioned in the last place. We can differentiate in the behavior of retired people; their decision-making process is influenced by financial reasons. The healthy lifestyle is the m ost important factor in the age group of ââ¬Å"productive ageâ⬠(25ââ¬â60 years). The place of residence did not show any significant effect on differences in the behavior of people from towns and villages. It is of interest that that there were differences in factors influencing purchasing decisions of men and women. Men tended to appreciate a wider assortment than women. As a reason for changes in consumption of these products, women mentioned more often the healthy lifestyle, while men appreciated a wider assortment. For Beverages, the reasons for changes in consumption patterns were different than those mentioned for foodstuffs. Financial reasons were as important as the healthy lifestyle and a wider assortment. This could be influenced by the fact that the question concerned all beverages so that this was a very variable category of products and for that reason the answers were too general. For producers, important information represents the fact that consumers are influenced by newcomers, innovations and advertising when buying staples. Consumers, who were strongly interested in their health, purchasedcereal bakery products, fish, poultry, yogurts, cheese and mineral water. When analysing the reasons of changes in consumption patterns, it was demonstrated that the reasons differed in dependence on the affiliation with the individual groups of customers. There were different reasons for individual social groups, individual age categories, and different localities. If we omit these identification groups, the most frequent reason for changes in consumption patterns in all categories of foods was the healthy lifestyle followed by a wider assortment. Financial reasons were mentioned on the last place. The reason for using this study was to show that although not for everyone but for those who consume pediasure is similar to a staple food. The reason being is that you have to include it either in your milk or your beverage. So when we talk about the buying and selling of dairy products overhear we can always link it to PediaSure as it is a dairy product for most. When we look at the buying patterns of consumers we can always similarize it with the buying patterns of pediasure . Starting from the price to marketing to health safety all of these affect the buying of pediasure. It might be one of these factors that would have resulted the sales to go down at the end of the study it said that prices didnââ¬â¢t matter most so it may be a possibility that there may be another factor other than price. Research Design: The study seeks to find the ulti mate solution to solve the problem of declining sales of Abbotââ¬â¢s Pediasure find and to seek whether it is feasible for conducting additional promotional activities. Since we were seeking to explore the reasons for declining sales we used Exploratory Research Methods. Sampling Technique: Convenience sampling method based on a non-probability sampling technique was used to gather data from the respondents. A questionnaire based survey was conducted to validate the findings. The questionnaire-based survey is designed as to measure both quantitative and qualitative variables. Its methodical profile includes multi-perspective, cross-sectional design and broad random samples. The questionnaire tests the following variables: * Brand Identity * Usage Pattern * Preference * Satisfaction * Availability II. Gathering Data We questioned 50 mothers from different stores in Federal-B Area and 30 from stores in Defence. The main reason for having an unequal sample size for both areas is because number of medical stores in Federal-B Area is a lot more than that in Defence, so we thought it would me fair if we had more respondents from Federal-B area. Our target respondents were mothers of age in between 30-40, but it was not very easy to find them in the medical stores. We questioned as many as we could find and the rest was filled by fathers of around the same age group on behalf of their wives. It was our good fortune that the fathers were surprisingly well-informed about the products being used for the infants. 1. Analysis of Results The data was first entered in Microsoft Excel and then one of our group members double-checked and copied it to the SPSS software and then analysis were conducted using SPSS Statistical Software. Sources of Data * Primary Sources: * Respondents Our main aim was to get fresh information from the parents directly, so we could better figure out the main reasons behind the sluggish growth of sales. There were some instances where the store managers were being receptive and the respondents showed disinterest in providing information. Due to our persistence we managed to get a great deal of good information. We mostly had to read out the questions to the respondents, while they shopped and marked the answers according to their response. The questionnaires were all filled under supervision of either of the members of the group to avoid the chance of misunderstandings. * Secondary Sources: Secondary data was not as such required in our research it was mostly based on primary data. The literature review only required thorough reading of different articles. This helped us in getting a better idea about different aspects of the research work. We learned how to design the questionnaire in a way that would get the maximum possible information without offending the respondents in any way. It also helped us to figure out how the issue of differences in perception of people living in different type of areas in the same city has been dealt. Some important information regarding Pediasure and its competitors Contents was also gained using some secondary data. It was gathered from the websites of these companies and also from reading the packages of the respective products. This was basically done to compare different variables in different supplements. The comparisons were eventually used to analyze which variable is most important for the consumers. IV. Research Instrument As mentioned above, a questionnaire based survey was conducted, the questionnaire was designed collectively by the entire group members, keeping in mind all the dos and donââ¬â¢ts of Questionnaire designs taught by our mentor/teacher. It was also SPSS friendly, so it was really easy for us to statistically analyze it through the software. Before moving ahead with it, we also got it checked to reduce as much chances of errors as possible. It was scripted using simple and familiar language, few questions that were easy to answer and supervision was given throughout. The sampling technique was partially random. The stores in all the areas were shortlisted through systematic random sampling technique. There were a total of 92 stores in F. B area and 56 stores in Defence, and we randomly selected 25 and 15 stores from the respective areas. Then from each store 2 respondents were surveyed upon. The questionnaire contained 14 questions measuring different variables that are mentioned above. The variables tested through our research are usage pattern, preference to competitors, frequency of purchase, brand identity and purchase intention. Some questions were even included to get a little idea about the demographics of the target population. We faced some trouble during data collection, since the respondents seemed totally disinterested in giving their valuable knowledge to us. The staffs of the stores were also being receptive due to the agitation of the customers. In cases where store managers were not allowing us to interview in the store, we had to wait outside to get our target respondents. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS RESTATEMENT OF PROBLEM The research problem was to identify the reasons behind the decline in sales of Abbotââ¬â¢s flagship product Pediasure. This was done by dividing selected areas in the city, mainly Defense and F. B Area, into class A and class B and finding out the perceptions of the users about the product. If the value of assumed significance was greater than . 05, the hypothesis was rejected. MAJOR FINDINGS 1. Area of residence affects use of nut ritional supplements We do not reject our hypothesis which means that there is a difference in perceptions of people living in different areas. 2. Area of residence affects awareness of Pediasure. We do not reject our hypothesis showing that again area of residence is a factor which contributes to the differences in attributes of people. 3. Knowing the available competitorââ¬â¢s, consumer will prefer Pediasure over competitors as a Nutritional Supplement. We reject our hypothesis because awareness is not the only reason why consumers will prefer Pediasure over competitorââ¬â¢s product. 4. High nutrients are preferred over other variables like Price. We reject our hypothesis with the conclusion that price is the principle variable considered in buying nutritional supplements. 5. High nutrients are preferred over other variables like Recommendation. We reject our hypothesis because considering the nutritional aspect is not a preference over other factors such as recommendation. RECOMMENDATIONS * The image of Pediasure should be improved for the consumers to identify it as a medicinal product. * Increase in the number of flavors of Pediasure would boost the sales. * There is a requirement from the marketing department to be more active and engage in activities such as personal selling. * If there is a possibility then the price of the product should be reduced keeping in mind the costs. If not then the company should emphasize the benefits of the product as in Nutritional value should be highlighted in the campaigns like ââ¬Å"37 vital nutrientsâ⬠to motivate the customers into buying the product. * Different promotional campaigns according to different mediums should be designed highlighting the strong points of the product. Choosing brand ambassadors w ith high percentage of popularity among the children is a good idea. Batacanââ¬â¢s Pinoy detective novel, Smaller and Smaller Circles, creatively presents the kind of society the Philippines has right now ââ¬â how, nowadays, negative it has become. It shows a theme on violence and abuse, the other things that go with them like motivation (anger, etc) and consequences (results), and gives the readers an idea about how unfair the society can be most of the time especially to those who are incapable of speaking for themselves. The novel starts off by presenting one face of violence in the story ââ¬â the killings. It tells us that crime happens to everyone. No one is invulnerable to crimes. It can be anyone around us: a pregnant woman, a businessman, a driver, a teacher, a student, an adult or a kid. In the story, children about twelve or thirteen whose genitals, faces and hearts were removed are victimized. (pages 5 12) The victims are ââ¬Å"children of poor families. â⬠(p. 13) The story is set in Payatas ââ¬â a place which is known for its poverty. Many people who have authority in the society tend to use their power in the wrong way. Government officials, instead of helping the people, make them suffer by corrupting the nationââ¬â¢s funds and fooling them around with their flowery talks. Policemen, instead of bringing bad guys into prison, commit crimes themselves like asking for bribes and ââ¬Å"lagayâ⬠. There are some cases in the Philippines where the police show the public someone ââ¬â the ââ¬Ëcriminalââ¬â¢ ââ¬â just to look good in front of the peopleââ¬â¢s eyes and to seem in control of everything. This is represented by Attorney Benjamin Arcinasââ¬â¢ character, the acting director of the National Bureau of Investigation who suddenly makes public a man named Carding who, according to him, handed over himself and confessed to everything. (chapters IX-XI) Policemen are supposed to imprison law-breakers and not forcefully bring them inside. If those who are given such power and responsibility practice their authority like this, there would be no more sense of justice in the country. Furthermore, Philippine policeââ¬â¢s ineffectiveness is presented in the novel as well. Quoting from the text: ââ¬Å"Unlike in the United States or Europe, Philippine police and law enforcement authorities do not compile statistics on missing persons on a nationwide basis. â⬠Worse, they seem to work just to earn more money. Continuing the quotation: ââ¬Å"Most people with a missing relative are referred to the media, and little police effort, if any, is expended toward following the cases up after that ââ¬â unless, of course, the victims are wealthy or influential. â⬠(p. 19, emphasis mine) The latter quoted statement gives us the idea that ââ¬Ësmallââ¬â¢ people, especially those below the poverty line, are not given the same treatment. If poor people complain, they are given less attention; actions to their cases are slow-paced. Worse, some do not bother complaining at all: ââ¬Å"Jerome and Saenz exchange looks. ââ¬ËDidnââ¬â¢t anybody complain? ââ¬â¢ The mechanic sighs and shrugs, and although he doesnââ¬â¢t say a word, they know what he would have said anyway: complain about what? The criminal, Alejandro Benitez-Carlos Jr. , was sexually abused by his homo P. E. high school teacher, Isabelo Gorospe who, as mentioned later in the story, became his first victim. The incidents of abuse shared by Emong Ricafrente, a former classmate and also a victim, is mentioned in chapter XXIII. This part of the story makes the readers realize that thereââ¬â¢s no more ââ¬Ësafeââ¬â ¢ place. Crimes happen anywhere ââ¬â in the streets, inside the school or even at home. To accomplish his plans, Alex Carlos, abuses his power as a dentist. He builds a good impression among his patients to keep himself from being suspected. This shows how a very ââ¬Ërespected and goodââ¬â¢ person can be a criminal. People trusted him. ââ¬Å"He comes to work early, lunches alone, and is always the last to leave at the end of the day. He has a perfect attendance record. â⬠No one thought he could commit such a crime. If people cannot assure someoneââ¬â¢s trustworthiness, how can there be trust? And if thereââ¬â¢s no trust, how can a society work properly? Violence gives birth to more violence. Bad things produce more evil things. Thatââ¬â¢s what F. H. Batacan tells her readers with this novel. For instance, letââ¬â¢s take the case of Alex Carlos. He was sexually-abused during the complex stage of his life ââ¬â high school. This deeply traumatized him and changed him all together. ââ¬Å"Emong nods. ââ¬ËHow could anybody expect him to go on? He was a mess. After a while, it was just him, him all the time, and we all knew. He couldnââ¬â¢t stand it when we looked at him, and he used to pick fights whenever he caught any of us looking at him. He would sit all the way in the back of the classroom, and soon he was all alone, he wouldnââ¬â¢t talk to anybody. When he had to, though, he would never look them in the face, it was so strange. â⬠(pp. 122-123, emphasis mine) And according to Alexââ¬â¢s father: ââ¬Å"He became rebellious, withdrawn. â⬠(p. 114) As mentioned, violence gives birth to more violence; crimes to more crimes. Alex, traumatized and in pain, was motivated to avenge himself. He killed his P. E. teacher, and the poor children who were too ordinary unlike him and who reminded him of his horrible past. And in page 114, his father even mentions ââ¬Å"He was trying not to cry, but he was trying even harder to keep himself from flying at me. From killing me. â⬠A criminal created a serial killer in the smart, clean and neat young Alex Carlos. The novel also presents another side of the criminalââ¬â¢s character. He did not really want to do those things. Quoting, ââ¬Å"I didnââ¬â¢t like it. I didnââ¬â¢t like any of it. I. Didnââ¬â¢t. Want. It. â⬠He was just too much affected and troubled by the abuse he had to go through. That instance in his childhood dramatically changed his life in the future. Everyone is given his/her position/ responsibility in the society and all must do their works properly, fairly. Justice is for everyone. Laws were created for the peopleââ¬â¢s better. Crimes are a serious matter. Results of these and of the investigations greatly affect the lives of those who are concerned. Such cases must be treated with care and passion because peopleââ¬â¢s lives are at stake. It should not be just a matter of exposure or selfish gain like how the case was to Joanna Bonifacio, a journalist, who just thought of the ratings of her famous program: ââ¬Å"The ratings will shoot through the roof. ââ¬
